USA Customs and Duty-Free Requirements

Food

Most food items are prohibited from being brought into the USA and hence should be declared at LAX airport or you could risk getting a fine. Items include, but are not limited to, dairy products, vegetables and fruit, meat and seeds or nuts.

Alcohol and Cigarettes

One litre is allowed per person over the age of 21 years old. Remember that this is the legal drinking age in most of the USA, hence any travelers under 21 will not be permitted to carry alcohol. No more than 100 cigars and 200 cigarettes may be brought into the USA per person.

Medication

Any prescription medication should be kept in the original packaging with all information leaflets included.

Visas and Immigration Information

Travelling from within the USA

If you are landing at LAX from another US territory, you will not need to show a visa if you are a US citizen in posession of a valid photo ID. Travellers from other countries are also required to only show photo ID, however it is likely that airport officials will also need to see a US visa.

Travelling from Outside the USA

Currently, 35 countries are able to visit the USA without a visa as part of their Visa Waiver Program, including Australia, New Zealand, EU countries, the UK and South Korea. Travel is permitted for tourism or business for up to 90 days.

Visitors from countries not listed will need to apply for a travel visa with their local US Embassy or Consulate before travelling.
