Los Angeles LAX Airport Layover and Family Facilities

Long Layovers

LAX airport does not have public shower or change facilities within its terminals however passengers who would like to use their layover to freshen up still have two options. They could either pay to access one of the airport lounges which do have shower facilities, or travel to one of the hotels nearby to the airport which often allow guests to use their gym and change rooms for a nominal fee.

Unfortunately, LAX lacks many of the specialty layover services present in other international airports, so travelers hoping to use a spa, day room or salon would be best advised to visit the nearest hotel to enjoy these facilities.

Travelers with Children

Although Los Angeles International Airport does not have a children’s play area, there are still a few options for parents who need to keep their family entertained while waiting for a connecting flight.

Beaches and LA

Those on a longer layover may enjoy a brief visit to one of the nearby beaches. Do bear in mind that traffic in LA can be heavily congested and so ensure you leave enough time to make it back to the airport for you flight.

Theme Building and Observation Deck

The Terminal Building is probably the most iconic and striking architectural feature of Los Angeles Airport. Designed to resemble a landing spaceship, the Theme Building incorporates the airport’s observation deck and the restaurant, Encounters. The interior of this restaurant, designed with the space age theme in mind, was completed by Walt Disney Imagineering, and will be a thrill for visitors, young and old.

Flight Path Museum

Situated alongside the main terminal, this museum has a variety of exhibits, artefacts and models documenting the history of aviation in Southern California. The museum is free to enter and is open from Tuesday until Saturday, 10am until 3pm.
